of course it doesn't break the remote. you just need a bluetooth adapter to connect to your computer. Then you just resync the wii remote with the wii when you're done.

it's not really a simple step. Most webcams can *maybe* get 30fps, if no other programs are running making them dump frames. The Wii remote has a 120 hz refresh rate. This means that it's literally taking 120 pictures per second. They're 1024x768 resolution, too, much higher than a decent webcam's 640x480.

The wii remote does onboard processing and identification of light sources, that's why it can manage this. all it has to send out over bluetooth is the location of the points, and their approximate size.

Logitech has a high-end camera that is able to do eye tracking very well. They even include software that will put a 3D model on your face in real-time. So it can work, no Wii necessary. Given, we're talking about the $100 webcam, and not the $20 model.

I really don't understand why anyone would want to put up their own crappy demonstration of something that Johnny Lee already showed perfectly.

I understand that this camera exists, my roommate has one. That doesn't change the fact that its resolution is 640x480 and it's updating 30 times a second. The wii camera is 1024x768 and it updates 120 times a second. This is 4x faster and higher-resolution. Also the data from the wii remote is already set up to be easy to handle, whereas Logitech probably doesn't provide an easy way for programmers to use their eye tracking.

Actually the Logitech Ultra Vision SE does video capture at up to 960 x 720. And that's color, not B&W IR. So that's x3 as much data right there. Check out their Video Effects Avatars. Real-Time Eye Tracking. It's a done deal, software's already out. Logitech could do head tracking drivers in less then a month that any video game developer could use. It's just a matter of them being smart enough to do it.

you are right if you designed a box in which all six sides where rear projected and the ir sensor was inside/behind the walls then it is completly possible. I can definatly see this technology being used in the future of gaming though great idea:)
