Provocative? Maybe. It's pretty honest stuff though. Of course, as a Christian it's really tempting to see Satan where Vedder put Death. Especially since she's female. And I've always been the most prophesy-doubting Christian I know. Obviously (least to me) the world's gonna burn unless we change human nature, but I've always wondered - could you exercise both God and the Devil in one go with genetics? -I not only think we will tamper with Mother Nature, I think mother wants us to.

Dude, if you're gonna look at genetic manipulation in cinematics, don't pick an Arnold Schwartzennager movie. Watch Gattaca. The family unit is still in place, but no faith birth can compete against a Valid, a Vitro, a Made Man in society. They're genetically inferior. But there are solar panels that stretch for miles, 20 manned space missions a day, and there is no war.

Satan by definition is the thing in us that chooses women over the planet, or diamonds and gold over the planet. And the only way to not make that choice is to want to be right rather than to be happy, which can only happen after some trauma. However minor, even just an emotionally distant father or overly critical mother, you join Greenpeace. But the rest of the world doesn't. They're happy. And they love women. And gold. And the world burns. Or you cut it out at the root with a microscope.

Unless we start using infinitely renewable energy sources like the sun and cold fusion. Or if we kill at least 80% of the population very,very fast. That would save us. But the options run along those lines. My fav part is after dude gets sucked in by the PC (8 years before WoW came out.. PJ does that shit), and after everyone is barcoded, then comes the VR. Hey, you're the one who suggested we switch to cold fusion to solve our energy problems. If cold fusion existed, I would agree with you; and it's not just a matter building the reactor but of a workable theory.
Hell, people have been saying the end is near, well, pretty much as long as there have been people. Countries and Empires fall, the world changes, but it doesn't end. The Ottomans were around for 400 yrs, the Romans 600 and Phonesians 1000. They ended, the rest of us went on.

Well, in principle you are right. However, did any of those countries/empires/people manage to change the face of the world during their 400-1000 years as we have managed in less than a couple of decades? What may have worked in the past may not be a working solution for tomorrow. Even though I am not as pessimist for the future as most, I can not condone resting on our laurels. Change is needed when we look at our current heading.
