The best versions of this song were by the Yardbirds, the Kinks, and the Beatles. This is a little cheesy. They don't even sing ALL the verses (i.e., "Been to Yokohama baby/fightin' in the war/army bus, army chow, army clothes, army car is omitted). The only thing I like about it is the end when the "Shindig" logo spins around like the wheels on a slot machine.

No, I think you're thinking of Colin Hicks who was a pop star in the 60s. Tony and Tommy Steele are not related.
This is a live ... ( 3 months ago by tgs1984)
This is a live version, which differs from the recorded version. They probably had to cut out a verse for broadcast time constraints. They don't sing it any differently than the Beatles. How is this version cheesy?

There was a previous poster who said they didn't like this song, and preferred the Beatles' version. No one went after them for it. If you don't like it, just say you didn't like it.

This is a great version by the Hollies. I like them. But I will say that the song's lyrics by Mr. Chuck Berry are great, and it's odd that the Hollies get them wrong a bit. That's it. Now everyone apologize to one another.
It's not that much ... ( 3 months ago by sapphiretaurus)
It's not that much of a mystery. Maybe they had to cut out one verse for broadcast time restraints, or maybe the producers of the show told them to take out that verse for whatever reasons. This was during Vietnam. I've seen many live versions of different songs by other singers and bands were they don't sing every verse. It's not a unique thing to this one song or performance.

there is a good reason the the lyric mix up if you listen carefully its the start of the beatles "i feel fine" its a piss take and maybe the reason for not all the lyrics maybe they forgot the words this happens

I think this is a great live version. There are certain Hollies songs I'm not crazy about, but one thing is certain: you can't fault them for their live performances. They always deliver in that department.

Everyone calm down about the lyrics. When Nash starts singing a line from "I Feel Fine" it is all in FUN. The band is just joking around. They were playful on stage; just part of their appeal.

I just compared the two. This is one case where The Hollies' version beats The Beatles'.
