I have a dobie who is exceptional in Schutzhund yet still able to be gentle with my nieces and nephews who are all under the age of 5. And that was done through positive training only. The Seeing Eye, K9 units, search and rescue, and other major working dog groups widely use positive only and it works. You can crack jokes about positive trainers training through 'hugs and kisses' all you want but there's obviously something we're doing right.

ANY animal can be unpredictable, and he never mentions leaving the child alone with them. Every child needs supervision with any kind of animal, be it rottweiler, pomeranian, or cat. I've seen full grown rottis be extremely calm, affectionate and gentle with babies, even if the baby pulls or their ear or whiskers.

If a dog, be it a Rott or any other dog, "takes" a child "under his care and responsibility", as in "this small human is under my protection" he will never hurt the child, will sacrifice his life for his happiness gladly and will never betray the child. EVER. I don't know you, but i don't know many humans that could be capable of such a commitment.

People cry scandalized when one dog, wrongly trained by it's owner, attacks a child. Nobody blames the true responsible, the uncapable or even criminal owner, and everybody asks for the "ban" on the race. If we were to "ban" every animal who attacked, mutilated, tortured, raped, abused and killed children, do you know which one would be top on the list, and by a LARGE distance? We, "Humans". Maybe we should ban ourselves........
