Haven't heard much of opeth's stuff, but dude, this band has fucking everything going for it. The lyrics are pure poetry for the modern world, the vocals have variety and style, the guitar is more than godlike no matter how jeff plays it, the drums are kickass, and the bass is good too. I call nevermore the "Led Zeppelin" of their time. I can't find anyone who sounds like them, either. This band is where the buck fucking stops my friend, I love it to death!

This isn't bad at all. It has the technical expertise of the instrumentalists, AND the lead singer can sing! Where the hell else can we get that? Usually its guttural rasping or howling shrieks. That isnt musical to my ears, to me it sounds like what it is. A bunch of out of touch guys 9or girls) trying to be "metal" becuase they can't sing.

there really isn't expertise at all from any of the instruments except the the guitar... and even that isn't very good. Nothing they do is that impressive and the singing gets fucking annoying fucking fast

Isn't very good? Come again? Chris Broderick is classically trained and shits on 90% of all metal guitarists. Granted the band is nothing special IMO, but Chris is amazing.

This band is something special. It's a fresh sound in metal. Lyrics that could stand out as poems, vocals like nothing you've heard before, guitars that make you're brain melt and rhythm section (bass & drums)capable of making you're ears bleed (in a positive way). They have their own style and it wasn't C. Broderick who made them stand out, although he was really important. But... that's my humble opinion.

what they are trying to perform is , exactly, the opossition between the music and the vocals. you can hear the guitars in the back with a frenetic riff and the vocals in the front stretching the words. I like it
