This lesson is an introduction to carving.
It should help people that have not discovered the edge yet to find this feeling. The main goal at this stage is to get the student NOT to turn his feet and slide but carve.
To achieve this i am using more inside ski lead and hip counter than necessary as this makes the rolling of the knees easier. Once the student realizes that the skis turn all by themselves these things are reduced to the amount necessary.
Instead of getting the student to edge by inclination - "leaning in" i stress the fundamental basic position. As i want to teach a technique which is consistent and works on the blues in the same way as on the black runs.

Hello Klaus, I got the DVD from you last season, and watched it over and over again. Trying to soak up as much information as possible, and trying it out during my skiing holiday. It helped me a great deal, and now there is this voice in my head telling me what to do the slopes! Your DVD is the best money I ever spent on a winter holiday! Ordered the dvd and a few days later our skiing holliday began. Very clear instructions for beginner and advanced skiers. Even my 10 year old doughter can understand the meaning of the exercices. We can't wait to get into the real snow! We will take the dvd with us and play it on my daughters portable car dvd player. Thanks!

If you area a beginner make sure you get a private teacher for the first two days after that you can watch this don't just go thinking you will follow this videos and it will work.

Thank you for this comment,I very much agree! This clip is not aimed at beginners,who should always make the first steps with the help of a prof.ski instructor. I do believe though,that skiers are often lacking the knowledge of how things are done most efficient and how they can improve their skiing. No matter if you choose to take a lesson with a good instructor,buy a good ski book or my DVD it will help you get more out of your precious ski time and will make every single turn more enjoyable

I've been instructing for years now as a PSIA Level III. This is a fantastic video with a lot to share! I have integrated these drills into my lessons, and I have seen MASSIVE improvement in weight transfer between turns, keeping weight forward, and consistency in ensuring that the edges of the skis roll evenly. Mr. Klaus, fantastic job, keep it up! I hope you realize you introduce the capability for intermediate/advanced skiers to become the carving machine they have always dreamed to be!

I've already ordered the SofaSkiSchool's DVD and I'm eagerly waiting it. However this morning I took the skilift for a try out of this video's instructions. I must say this free lesson alone is worth more than the low DVD price. Thanks to Mark's instructions I could carve avoiding any ski's slide.
