Drum Lesson: Double Stroke Roll Accents

UPDATE: CHECK OUT MY NEW VIDEO LESSON! I discuss how you can make a funky ride cymbal groove out of a paradiddle. http://youtube.com/watch?v=hhnwxf2o36c In this lesson: I go over how you can pull accents out of a double stroke roll. You can use this in fills, or soloing. This is my first vid
eo lesson, so I would love to hear any feedback what so ever regarding teaching method, the material, or anything. Also, feel free to ask questions. I will be happy to answer them. And let me know if I was in any way helpful! I would love to hear some success stories. Thanks for watching! P.S. I d
o not suggest imitating the way I hold my sticks in this video. The right hand was situated in such a way that ended up giving me carpel tunnel, and the left hand has many flaws as many people have pointed out. My doubles also had a very choked sound. I no longer play traditional grip, and have b
een taught much more appropriate ways to handle the sticks with matched grip that are more healthy and efficient.

I'm practicing this now. I've got it down nicely, but havent gained his speed yet, more practice. Very cool roll.
Initially, my hands kept wanting to fall back into a paradiddle. Mind over matter - took it real slow, then after an hour - it registered. I can incorporate it into some cool rolls, or just use it as a continuous snare roll w/ accents. THANKS! FYI- this roll isnt confined to traditional, I p
lay match & can get great speed on this.
He explains it very very well.

It's a pah dah-dah haha or thats what a lot of people call it. If you put the double first its called a dah-dah pah. Do you always use a French (somewhat French that is) grip in your right hand or only on your ride? I ask because I think you might improve you back beat feel if you flattened your right hand out like more of a German grip. Your sound isn't bad it just would help make you sound more....soulful I guess you would say

Throughout all of the 4:00+(until drum segment stops) segment, you curl your left hand in an unconventional way that looks like over time could cause some wrist problems, and might overall hinder your playing. If you play normally, it might even be easier.
