incubus is not nu metal....and this isn't classical...it is a contemporary piece.... as it was composed recently. however i do think it is cool that a popular musician such as mike is helping young america become more familiar with intelligent music and it may hopefully cause a trend of people who actually study and understand music to write good music instead of the garbage that is the majority of the music we hear today.

Incubus released a nu-metal album called S.C.I.E.N.C.E in 1997, when I first heard their style. Though they have shifted away from nu-metal, I was referring to their classification as of then. Classical and contemporary are interchangeable terms. The full term would be contemporary classical music.

i think when you say classical, you are referring to the fact that it is orchestral. classical music has rules like no parallel thirds, fifths, octaves etc.. certain types of passing tones are also prohibited. there are a load of other stylistic factors that contribute to making a piece classical. If this was in the classical style then technically it would be categorized as a contemporary neoclassical piece.

though some portions may be reminiscent of classical, other sections of it are more impressionistic. Obviously i do not have the score in front of me, and i only have relative pitch so i can't tell you exactly in which places the rules for classical music are broken. But i have listened to enough of it to know that this isn't it. It is really a culmination of styles. so it is much simpler to just call it contemporary and leave it at that.
